Aglaonema Amber
A cultivar of Aglaonema — the Chinese Evergreen, native to the tropical and subtropical forests of Southeast Asia and New Guinea — selected for its warm golden-amber leaf patterning that gives the plant its name. A compact, clumping, self-heading grower that requires no climbing support and tolerates a wider range of indoor conditions than most collector aroids, making it one of the most genuinely accessible variegated tropical plants available. Its forgiving constitution has made the Chinese Evergreen a houseplant staple for decades, and the 'Amber' selection brings that same low-maintenance reliability in a particularly warm and richly toned expression.
-
Light: Moderate to bright indirect light maintains the best color contrast and most vigorous growth; tolerates lower light than most variegated plants though color intensity reduces in dim conditions. Never direct sun.
-
Soil: Well-draining potting mix with added perlite; good aeration and drainage are beneficial. Never waterlogged.
-
Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-80°F; does not tolerate cold drafts or temperatures below 55°F. Average household humidity is sufficient though 50-60% supports the best growth.
-
Watering: Water thoroughly when the top 1-2" of medium is dry; reduce in winter. More forgiving of underwatering than overwatering — never allow to sit in standing water.
-
Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during active growth; reduce or stop in winter. Avoid over-fertilizing which causes salt buildup and leaf tip burn.
